2. Yes, if you play a replay (SP mode, .spr file) and press esc you get a menu in which you have the option to "test drive" the car.
Than means you drive the car with the setup that was used in the first place.
This way you can get the chance to drive the setup from anyone who uploaded a hotlap on LFS World, but you will not be able to save this setup as your own.
I stumbled across an Air Attack (demo - FBM@BL) server yesterday night, and unknowingly tried your application.
It seems very stable and refined, and was put to good use on this server.
It also helped creating and manitaining a focused bunch of racers, even if demo, by requesting a minimum LFSW pb to enter the races. Interesting grids ordering trick as well.
Congratulations!
PS I got my ass kicked by these guys most of the time, and could not go anywhere close to my mouse pb with the G25, but they still passed me more or less cleanly and did not voice "blue flag" or such comments.
Therefore I recommend this server for demoers who want competitive and still rather friendly races in the FBM, provided they can run a few clean laps under 1:18.
70km / 40 miles to work, and back...
Starting downhill from the garage, 15% slope 100m long with wall both sides and 90° left turn down there. If it snowed you are well awake wether you made the turn or not
then 10minutes of up and down mixed city including crossing a tricky twisty forest road with iced bridges. Then 30min highway, steep and twisty at first and then flat after a 10km hillclimb perfect for drifting 40 tons trucks.
Then 5 minutes through another city with traffic and 9-10 hours before starting again...
After a few years it gets slightly boring, but still better than public transportation at peak hour.
Just search in the technical assistance section for this specific issue and you should be able to find answers.
Without knowing more of your situation, this kind of issue mostly ends up being a firewall issue, not LFS issue. Do you allow LFS to go through your firewall?
@OP: Ask yourself the question and you will find answers!
Is damage one of the reasons why you play LFS and not other titles, widespread on the market?
Damage as part of the "simulation" attempt that characterizes LFS?
If yes then the poll is no use.
If no you are beyond help here
I like it as it is, it makes races with a driver change less predictable.
You also have to agree with your partner if you leave the car in 1st gear and clutch or put to neutral (can be fun in MRTs )
You can win / lose a few positions during the pit entry, stop, takeover and pit exit due to the multiple tasks involved and that adds to the fun.
Tip: Already set the mouse pointer to the right driver in the correct "N" view will help.
Everything from the box worked for me, no need to update drivers.
Preparation: Check your table / desk will be suitable for the clamping system.
If you want to reduce noise / vibrations it is a god idea to place a thin rubber like pad between the wheel and the desk surface (similar to what cushions tables or holds carpet in place on wooden floors)
Read the LFS wiki section for setting up the wheel and apply according to the screenshots, it works perfectly for a start.
Get ready to see you laptime plummet to unexpected levels if you used mouse or keyboard before!
You could also resort to bribery as:
1) Jakg is in a front spoiler / girl tangle at the moment
2) I deduce from the bits of your first post that I can understand that you have more than enough money for it
Not my argument here...
But I still see an issue with the attempt to compare the side effects of religion and rugby
Rugby may injure or even kill, but only rugby players.
Religion can kill anyone, anywhere, and has done it before.
I do not agree with the hands free version neither.
It hinders the drivers less physically speaking, but I am convinced that it is not the physical limitations that cause the danger.
While on the phone your attention is taken away from the car and environment, and you are less aware of your surroundings. When you are having a conversation with people in the car your attention can remain focused on your environment and driving much more easily.
No to phones!
I never call and usually do not answer incoming calls while driving (as the phone is mostly off it does not prove too difficult to achieve). I also try not to call people who I know are driving.
Also ban cell phones from the streets, especially hand free... These people shouting and laughing alone in the streets sure do look like weirdos.
It is indeed a very nice car to drive, but there are buts:
Good controller is a must (or extreme skill)
Respectful and experienced drivers only can RACE properly with this car, else you end up with a crash party
For these reasons the car seldom attracts pick up racers, but can be found in leagues.
I had 2 good weeks with the car on Dead Men Racing server, BL1R and South city long. This server has random combos, lasting one week peaking with a 1 hour race. It can also be found on CTRA highests single seater servers, if you make (made?) your ways up there...
I would like to add my little input to the ABS discussion here.
I was racing XFG last night on AS north (Dead Men Racing for free advertisement purposes ).
I turned on ABS and cranked up brake strength and found out that by trying not to activate it I needed a better modulation of the brake pedal.
Trying that for a few laps helped me find the threshold much faster that the usual tedious process (save a replay and check with the force view where it locks).
So the ABS should in my opinion remain an option player and server side for the road cars, as it provides a good learning tool.
It is much easier to tell when a tyre is on the limit and to stay close with the ABS orange color and feedback, and I plan to carry on learning how to brake with higher brake forces this way.
Another note: usual setups (meaning shared by a vast amount of users) have a greatly reduced brake strength in order to prevent lockups at 100% braking - braking start conditions. Does the ABS really give a further advantage that than extreme setup option?
I am still following this thread closely, out of interest for the adventure the iracing team has started.
When I log in here I am looking for the opinion of people who race or used to race in LFS and have rented iracing, and thus can bring forward a valid comparison between the 2 sims.
I am also looking for the posts of LFSers who have not even set a wheel into iracing, because a good percentage of the LFS community is composed of individuals with interesting views on racing sims, and a rare to find open-mindness, all that combined with the capacity to write proper English.
I am interested in what iracing will achieve and also a bit scared that if they succeed they may create a new trend. I still wish them good luck in the process, and without having tried the game I can say here on LFS forum that I disagree with the pricing policy and marketing show iracing created.
Thanks a lot Scawen for the communications.
No problems with the delay, that was to be expected after reading the test patches forum.
Good luck on fixing the bugs, and thank you very much for listening to the user requests and implementing them (reduced setup options, now that will be interesting )
Wishing you, the dev team and also LFS users, including the impatient moaning kids, a merry christmas.
